Although there are several types of institutions providing technical and vocational education, including some traditional high schools, most technical and vocational students attend specialized secondary schools or colleges. The programs can be short to longer programs, such as welding programs that only take a few months, such as auto mechanics that last three years. Students who complete vocational courses are usually offered apprenticeships in different trades for training. Apprenticeship courses, under close supervision, range from six months to three years of work. Many technical schools offer the full six years of secondary education and are training students to take the SSCE.
